"What's body liberation?"
You may have heard of body positivity - more and more people are using the term to mean loving yourself or loving your body. Body liberation is a newer, more neutral term - it doesn’t necessarily always feel like celebration of the body you live in, but it’s accepting. It’s freedom from shame in processing your feelings about your body and living as who you are.
To me, body liberation means that everyone has the freedom to choose what they do with and for their bodies. It means having access to choices, and having safe spaces to both make and exercise those choices. You can read more about body liberation over at Jes Baker’s website (she’s one of my favorite authors and activists).
In photography, body liberation looks like making both my practices and my photos welcoming and safe for all body types and all kinds of choices. My portrait art doesn’t require a certain look, space, or health.
MY GOAL IS TO GIVE YOU THE SPACE AND SAFETY TO MAKE CHOICES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE THE BEST YOU IN A PHOTO.
Face it - you’re so wonderful. You’re valuable to so many people around you for so many reasons. When you’re really feeling yourself and how awesome you are, your face lights up. I’m here to help you see that manifest in a photo!
